Tockwotton on the Waterfront - Construction Complete

WORCESTER – February 20, 2013Cutler Associates has recently completed construction of Tockwotton on the Waterfront, the much-anticipated cutting edge senior living home in East Providence's new Waterfront District.

The $52.2M, 137,754-square foot, five-story structure was abuzz on Friday afternoon, as Cutler’s management team, joined by architectural firm DiMella Shaffer of Boston, MA, and Tockwotton Executive Director Kevin McKay co-hosted the home’s official grand opening. Over 300 people, including national, state and local officials attended a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the official opening of the spectacular home.

With a construction budget of $29M, the project employed 176 workers per day at its peak, with those workers logging approximately ¼ million man-hours of labor in total. The project was completed on-time, on-budget, and with the high quality standards expected, according to Executive Director Kevin McKay.

Tockwotton offers 73 assisted living beds, 31 memory care, 17 short-term rehabilitation and 35 long-term care beds in a warm, home-like atmosphere, where residents have the freedom to develop their own daily routines. The trend toward deinstitutionalized care is evident here, where residents come and go as they wish from the facility’s café, theater, library and pub – and their own private apartments.

“Tockwotton is at the forefront of senior living culture change in RI,” stated Garth Johnson, head of Cutler’s Senior Living division. “This culture change to resident-centered care puts the needs, interests and choices of residents at the center of care; where it should be. Cutler is proud to be a part of this very positive quality of life transformation.”
