Five College Library Annex Recognized as an Outstanding Design-Build Project - An Award-Winning Collaboration

At their recent Annual Meeting and Design-Build Awards Event, held in Framingham, the Design Build Institute of America (DBIA) New England Region, presented the Five College Library Annex project team with a Bronze Award in the Building Construction category.

The design provides for 9,000 SF of receiving, materials processing, meeting and office space, with the remaining 26,000 SF storage space, outfitted with 24-foot high shelving units that have a capacity to house 2.5 million volumes.

Cultivate, Worcester County's first Medical Marijuana Dispensary Now Open

On Friday, December 1, the first medical marijuana dispensary in Worcester County opened its doors for business. A fully-renovated 23,000 square foot building at 1764 Main Street in Leicester, just outside of Worcester, is now home to Cultivate.

Designed by Cutler Design and built by Cutler Associates of Worcester, Cultivate is a comprehensive operation. Building systems and space planning took into account the need for running cultivation, harvesting and processing operations, as well as the storefront dispensary element.

The business currently has approximately 100 patients pre-registered to make purchases. Once news of their opening gets out, Sam Barber, President of Cultivate Holdings, expects significantly increased demand for their products given their location. There are no other medical marijuana dispensaries operating within an hour’s drive. “We believe there to be a genuine need for cannabis products to service the medical needs of Worcester-area patients,” said Barber. “We see this as a growing business and service sector, and would consider expanding operations through opening additional locations sometime in the future.”
